At Bavarian Repair, we want all of you to be fully informed about any replacement parts we use in repairing your vehicle. We are very selective about which replacement parts we use. We expect the same quality in the parts we order as we do in the work we perform. Our goal is to get you the best quality part at the best valued price!

What are aftermarket parts?

Aftermarket parts are replacement parts made by a company other than the car’s original manufacturer. They are also called generic parts, non-OEM parts, and competitive replacement parts. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are supplied by the car’s manufacturer.

What are the pros and cons of using aftermarket parts?

PROS

They may be less expensive. Aftermarket parts are usually less expensive than OEM parts. How much you save depends on the brand.

Quality can be equal to or greater than OEM parts. In fact, sometimes you may end up with a better part than the one you had originally. Aftermarket companies often reverse-engineer the part, working out any weaknesses found in the original.

There is more variety. Tons of companies make aftermarket parts. Some of these companies specialize in specific parts, while others make any and every part you can imagine. This variety allows for a greater selection and a wider price range.

CONS

Quality varies greatly. Some aftermarket parts are inferior due to the use of lower-quality materials. This is precisely why we are so selective of which brands we use and which parts we buy from them.

There are so many choices. If you are unfamiliar with aftermarket parts (and the brands who supply them), the selection may be overwhelming.

They may not have a warranty. To keep costs down, not all aftermarket parts are sold with a warranty.

Why do we use these brands?

Did you know BMW only builds the engine and chassis on their vehicles? Other parts are outsourced. Some of the above listed brands are actually original equipment suppliers to BMW. When we order parts from those suppliers, we are receiving OEM parts; they just don’t have the BMW logo pasted on the side of the box. Additionally, we get a better value buying through the supplier, and we pass those savings on to you.

The other brands have been fully vetted by us. We do not use low-quality parts. Essentially, we would never put anything in your car that we wouldn’t put in our own. We test new parts or new suppliers in our own vehicles first. If they do not meet our standards, we will not recommend those parts.
